another project….

well, since I have decided that I need: wheels, new suspension front and back, possibly a pro carb clean, tires many small parts, etc for the 650, i bought a new bike to get me on the road sooner…
this one runs already, and has a headstart over the cb

lowered headlight and guages, hacked off seat lock

So yesterday I got some good work done. Hacked off the seat lock and ground it down, frame is a little cleaner, also installed the battery box in a new spot, not relocating it under the seat anymore.. still wondering if I should get stock side covers, or fab some myself…

I also took off the headlight ears and cut off the blinker mounts, then flipped them and switched sides, they are a couple inches lower, also bent back the guage mounts to lower them.

installed the gas tank, and removed the auto fuel shutoff on the carbs, connected the gas directly…

rigged up a petcock, starting seat fabrication…

So this has been a slow process over the holidays and the new year…. I need to buy a lot of parts and funds have been pretty low. I decided to start fabricating things myself…

Picked up a petcock for a 77 cb550f, and its too small, although it does have the coarse threads needed… I picked up an air hose attachment at lowes, and ground down the thing about half an inch so it would fit above the engine nice… not pretty, but functional.

I also decided that I would build the seat myself based on this DIY page, pretty neat…

I will be using the rear section of the original gas tank, I just hope that I can blast off all the inside rust without putting a hole in the thing.. haha it hasnt been opened in 12 years.

The tank with cut lines before fabrication…. I think I got a nice shape going with this thing…. the teardrop shape is lending itself well to a rear fairing…

the waiting game…

So, I am taking the tank to a junkyard today, to try and find a petcock, besides that, I am waiting on a battery from the MC shop, I am not expecting this thing to run sweet at all, but I am hoping it at least starts up, without any carb diagrams to look at ( I could only find the older model 650 manual) who knows, but I will know in the next couple days…
